    Heathrow expansion

    Heathrow expansion plans unveiled

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7106524.stm

"Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly has set out proposals for a third runway and a sixth terminal at Heathrow...which will require the destruction of an entire village.

I thought London was promised all future expansion at Stansted, after all, that's why it was built in the middle of nowhere? How long before west London converts from a car park into a runway? And, more importantly, what's the effect on house prices and immigration?

Only flew from Heathrow once. Never again.

The place is a festering tulip hole. Standstead is much nicer.

It's to help reduce noise and air pollution.

      Oh sorry - LOCAL pollution.

        Agreed.

Any other airport in the UK is much nicer and probably don't have so many near misses.

Stansted is even nicerer and so convenient for us Cambridge types.

Yeah, watched newsnight last night...its a stitchup. Whilst the government (and BAA) have had three years to build its case..opponents get three months. What's the Labour catch phrase? "we're listening". ha ha ha

Is this a capitalist or socialist country. There seems to be a LOT of govenment intervention and handouts to already rich private companies. Its as if the royals were still running things.
