If I was to do it in my lorry I would still get 12mpg....

will do the Reading to Manchester run this afternoon and fill up again tomorrow as im convinced being sat on Reading ringroad for 45mins is the reason for the shockingly low mpg

Focus Diesel has to be the best commuting car out there.

Cheap to buy, cheap to run and doesn't attract any attention whatsoever.

            My new(ish) Mondeo 1.8 says I'm getting 36 to 37 mpg.

what kind of lifespan would you expect out of a Ford?

                Damn straight!

Plus the parts for it are beyond cheap. I do all the servicing myself so can do it in total for less than £30.

Although its finally got near 100k now so I have to get the cam belt changed which is something I cannot do myself...mostly as the tools are special and cost the same as the cam belt change.

I would say a modern Ford should do over 100K miles without too much trouble.

Not in the Japanese league but as good as the overrated VW brand.

Mines got 97k on the clock (less than 3 years old). Still going well.

As long as its looked after and not ragged then I expect another 200k easily.
