Murder Vs 160k from an insurance company

Which is worse? Given the news coverage of the canoe man, it seems fraud of a small amount of money is worse than murder, which barely gets a passing mention on the local news these days. This relatively minor story has been top news for over a week.

What a bizarre world we live in
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

Are you pleased to see me, or is that a canoe in your pocket?

Something I read on BBC said he'd only got £25k from the insurance.

      Surely that can't be right?

"Anne Darwin, 55, was due to appear in court overnight on two charges of using deception in 2003 to obtain two money transfers worth pound stg. 25,000 and pound stg. 137,000, police said."

£160,000 is still not enough to do a disappearing act.

He played the system. This is deemed (by the system) to be a bigger crime than killing someone. So now book will be thrown at this chap as hard as possible.

            Agreed.

I'm surprised nobody else has done this, or have they?

Plus he's lost his NCD on his canoe.

I bet he's on some kind of insurance blacklist now.

I've really enjoyed following this story - it's really bizarre. It would make a good movie.

The question now is what was the sons' involvement?
Don't ask Beaker. He's just another muppet.
