Do you accept torture as means of getting information from suspects?

This is serious poll, hence no andyW option.

Depends on the severity of the torture.

I have no problem with electric shocks, waterboarding, proper drowning, removal of limbs with no anaesthetic etc.

However, locking someone in a Passat with Milan for a day with the only topic of conversation being the relative merits of various tape drives, would be a step too far.

Sometimes the good of one must be sacrificed for the good of the many.

It sucks being at the tulipty end of the stick.

No it doesn't. You think the threat of torture will make them stop? You're wrong.

It may not extract reliable information, but provided you turn the dial up to 10, it's one less terrorist to worry about.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
