Can you remember the first time you used the internet?

It was 1993 and I had just moved a Fidicuary system from London to Jersey (Jerset had cut its tax rates). It ran on a PC and accessed files using btrieve. In London it was on a novell server but in Jersey for some reason it was on a VAX drive. It had to be working on day 1 - this was a huge Swiss bank and the tax savings were hundreds of thousands per day. But it kept falling over - luckily it was fault resistant - but could not complete a large file. Looked like moving to Novell or file spliting.

Then someone decided to look on the internet - found a btrieve option -I121 . Everything worked perfectly.

89 - at uni, the pre internet (ARPANET I think it was called). I played that tron game - light cycles or something. Then bummming about on dial up bulletin boards, downloading porn (What else) for ages.

Then this browser thingie came along.

1995, I took out a subscription in Hong Kong to Asia-on-Line. The install came on a floppy and local calls were free so you could leave it on all day. I had a 14.4K modem and it was flying.....

89 at university I guess, but that was just newsgroups and mailing lists. There was no web of course, but I did once get paid £3 to use a hypertext system somebody was researching.

It must have been around 94-95 that the company I worked for (who had Compuserve) got a Demon internet account as well and I was given the task of setting it up.

I was at college, so must be '96, Netscape Navigator which loaded up a very basic almost text only version of the net. First thing I searched for "The Hackers Handbook" followed by "porn"

1994. Some American consultant showed me the AltaVista homepage and I was hooked.
