    Anyone interested in US politics?

It's starting to look interesting - Clinton isn't anything like the dead cert she thought she was a few months ago, and there's the real prospect of a black president and a major change in US foreign policy if he were to get in.

Republicans are kinda interesting too - though says a lot it's all about a baptist minister against a Mormon, with an ex POW as an outsider ...

      I'm vaguely interested.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I've read that Clinton is a bit of a religious nut job and would be likely veto any kind of modern scientific or medical research that involves genetic engineering or anything 'against God's vision' etc etc. Think we've had enough of presidents speaking to God.

It may just be me being too lazy to read properly how the election process works, but isn't it all a bit OTT and complicated? Can't they all just vote, add up the votes and the highest number wins?

To be honest as soon as the reports on Derick Obama stop starting with the sentance. "Meanwhile Black candidate..."

Why is his colour such a fecking issue. Personally I think it will be good for there to be a change but he won't be that effective till he can shake the tag of "first black president"

First part - no, not at all to my knowledge - the republican side tend to harbour most of the religious nutjobs who speak to god etc etc.

And 2nd one, sort of complicated but makes sense once you get your head around it. Think of it as each side choosing which path to go down (So the various wings of the party duke it out for the right to become president) then the head to head happens for the presidency - which to me seems more like electing a king than say our prime minister.

Actually it's not, it was hardly mentioned in this caucus - probably our press concentrating on it more then theirs now. And this caucus also proved that the question, ridiculous imo, that America is ready to elect a Black president (He won over lots of neutrals and won by a decent margin in an overwhelmingly white state).

Yeah, I think I get that bit but then doesn't each state then have different weightings?
