    Madeleine the movie

What next...Madeleine the movie: McCanns in talks over missing daughter's story.

The McCanns are set to turn the story of their daughter into a film. Kate and Gerry are in negotiation with the world's largest talent and entertainment agency, IMG, in a deal which could be worth millions .

I just cannot believe I'm reading this.

Now I'm certain they're both guilty as sin.

I have a US film at home based on a true story about a couple whose child was abducted during the night. If the film was an accurate potrayal of the facts, this particular couple were actually at home when the abduction of their small daughter happened. But similar to the McCann situation, the police messed up the initial evidence gathering process, the couple were accused of being party to the abduction when they couldn't make a quick arrest, the young girl was eventually found strangled in a field with the help of a psychic intermediary, then once the missing persons investigation turned into a full blown murder enquiry the couple were later accused of sexually assaulting their other son. The husband was tried and found guilty of murder and imprisoned, then the mother, by then expecting another baby, had to hand over the new born to social services because of these accusations.

Eventually, the couple were found to be completely innocent of any wrongdoing - they were cleared of sexual assault and murder, the husband released.

It was very likely that the child was taken by a weirdo psycho who was distantly related to the couple.

If the money is being used solely to help look for Maddy then I don't see what choice they have if they are innocent. How else could they raise the kind of cash they need now they are suspects.

Because of this film I've watched, I'm not prepared to by that cynical about the McCanns guilt until there is some hard evidence that they were involved in her disappearance and possibly death, should a body ever be uncovered.

I wonder if SallyAnne or SockPuppet have any thoughts on the matter?

It's back to the raising the profile question again - if they are innocent, then they need to do as much as they can to raise her profile and keep her in the public eye. Not sure that a straight-to-bargain-bin DVD is the way forward, but there you go.

Let me guesss the plot of this "factual" movie. A middle class couple go on holiday and take their three kids but they want to socialise a little with other adults 'al fresco' at their Portugese holiday resort so they give the eldest daughter half a sleeping pill and accidently kill her.

In the throes of panic, rather than face the prospect of the father (who is a doctor) being struck off the medical register and the mother losing her remaining 2 kids to the social services they decide to rent a car and bury her in the woods.

Then they invent a story about a stalker who abducted their child and then they meet the pope and get all the media attention that should have been devoted to a more worthy cause. They meet the pope and believe that the more they protest their innocence the better their story sticks.

Then they sell their story to Hollywood and the film becomes self referential at that point and they lived happily ever after and laughed all the way to the bank.

                    The End
