Waiting for clearance - climbing the walls

I've been waiting for security clearance to come through since November. My wife is fed up with not knowing what is going on. I don't know what to do with myself.

How do you cope with waiting for a contract to start?

Mr John Smith (1965), residing at 20 Vauxhall Bridge Road, London SW1V 2SA: we sad to tell you that you have failed in your application for security clearance for making it public that you tried to get one. Please remain where you are - our team is on our way, make sure you have put your affairs in order.

Er.... I thought that you were not allowed to mention to anyone that you are undergoing clearance? I know it is currently taking around 8 months though if that helps, assuming DV?

Also.... Be sure that the project is still going ahead. My clearance was cancelled with many others in my firm after they realised that there would be too many people twiddling their thumbs. Was very annoying as we were taken on for the project that we were pulled from after wasting 3 months of our lives

Quiet. I should have invited him for tea with Po-210. A bit pricey though.

What's bothering you particularly? The lack of income? The "not going into work"? The incessant demands for sex from your wife? Or the inability to plan anything more than a few days in advance?

                Get another contract.

Assuming you have a contract in place ask the agent to get you a 'retained' rate, if they can't tell them you're off.

This isn't a PSO role for Atkins by any chance? I had a gig in the bag with them only to be told I was no longer required after 6 weeks of waiting to start, I already had DV within the past 6 months so clearance wasn't the problem.

In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

You can start work without clearance, you just need an escort. Most security clearance shops are used to this and will be able to get somebody working on something similar to you to act as an escort.
