Why you need to pay more tax

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7215624.stm

The NHS is spending £350m a year to provide maternity services for foreign-born mothers, £200m more than a decade ago, the BBC has found.

Immigration has raised the birth rate so fast that some units have closed, so that midwives could be moved to areas of urgent need.

A unit in Ascot, Berkshire, shut for two months in 2007 because staff had to be transferred to Slough.

The NHS says it is working to "build in" the extra capacity needed.

Other maternity units have turned expectant mothers away because they could not cope with unprecedented increases in the local birth rate.

When Labour came to power, the NHS spent around £1bn a year on maternity services, with one baby in eight delivered to a foreign-born mother.

Ten years on, spending has risen to £1.6bn, with almost one baby in four delivered to a mother born overseas.

I thought you had to pay more tax because it was fair? Isn't that the usual line that they trot out??

60% increase in 10 years is about 5% per year increase in spending.

        Not that shocking.

The problem with these stats is it doesn't take into account a lot of the foreign born mothers are also working in this country and paying taxes, or the partner is so the increase in cost is meangingless. Also, what is a foreign born mother? Does this include women born abroad who are British, e.g. armed forces families?

LOL That Polish minger doesn't look like she's going back to work anytime soon.

P.S. The £5 a week the government might have got from her sandwich packing job (that's if it wasn't cash in hand, which it is 90% of the time) over her first 6 months in Britain won't go a long way towards her NHS bill and subsequent decade of benefit claims.

I did. ( Actually, she came over to the UK with her family long before we met ).

But it's ok, we've emigrated now, having use your tax money to fund the three kids we had before we emigrated... hang on... I was paying tax then as well.
