Rotwweiler: Commit to doing X by the end of the day
Geek: I have other things I need to do first, but will do if I can – nothing on the go for tomorrow am
Rotweiler: Get it done
Geek: What would you like me to drop?
Rotweiler: Nothing
Geek: I am stressed, maxed out, just tell me what you want me to do and I will gladly do it
Rotweiler: I will have to escalate to senior manager if you don’t do it
Geek: Gladly do it, but something will have to give
Rotweiler: Don’t to to Y project meeting
Geek: It is mandatory – I have not been to the last one for other work you wanted me to do instead
Rotweiler eventually agreed to the morning for the work.
It really is something straight out of Dilbert – it was very confrontational, I thought it was going to be a full on argument!
