    Software dev contracts in Bristol

Hello all, new poster, currently a permie hoping to go contract soon. I'm an experienced software developer with Java, .Net/C# and Ruby skills but I'm new to contracting so the following may be naive. I'd really appreciate the advice of experienced contractors.

I'm abroad at the moment, returning to the UK soon, probably Bristol. I do not want to commute longer than one hour each way or live away midweek. I've been checking the job boards regularly and the number of jobs in Bristol makes me think this is feasible - what say you lot?

Do you have a plan B when the work dries up in Bristol?

        Yes.

        Bristol
        Cardiff
        Bath
        Chippenham
        Swindon
        Cheltenham

All commutable by train or car from Bristol and within an hour away. Bristol would be a good base of contracting in the West.

          Thanks for the replies chaps.

@DimPrawn: That's exactly what I wanted to hear, thank you.

I guess my plan B would be to fall back on permie work, commercialise some of my own projects or, if it came to it, move back to London.

@Milan: why do you suggest a different username? It is memorable and never taken, lucky for someone with only two syllables in their entire name.

It depends on the persona that you are going to want to display while on this board.

Some of us think it best to stay anonymous. If you see what goes on in General sometimes you, would realise why.

James Cole, sent from the future to learn about a virus that destroys the human race in 1996?

I did 7 months in Bristol. Not a bad place on the whole.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

I did 6 months on and off too. Not sure there is enough going there as a long term thing for me but I enjoyed my time there too.

If you give me a couple of references or phone numbers of your current and past work collegues then I will be able to help.
