    Biggest Blag

Following on from a couple of threads in recent weeks where the ethics of stretching the truth to secure a gig were debated, how far have you stretched the truth to land a contract?

How did things pan out - did you survive or were you shown the door?

e.g. Have you ever blagged a role where you have never worked in a similar environment or with a technology before?

Feel free to change names to protect the innocent!

Those tapes practically change themselves now, eh?

Did you mean you didn't know anything at all about tapes?
I've seen much of the rest of the world. It is brutal and cruel and dark, Rome is the light.

Not until the client stuck little labels on saying "This way In"...

Still, the boy done good. Two cars and a virtual swimming pool to his name.

Surely the award belongs to Tony and to quote "40 minutes from destruction"

                  well it's like this,

I had the training materials for a certain software product/component

I had the doco for the product/component

I knew the theory and principles inside out from doing similar work, had worked with similar products/components from said vendor for a few years, just didn't know this particular product/component from this vendor

but the principles were the same

like for example, you've only ever driven a Passat, but you're pretty confident if someone gives you the keys to a Phaeton you'll be able to drive it and eventually find all the switches for lights, window wipers etc

using that analagy, studied the course, studied the doco and got a contract, at the time the software component was new and there was nobody in the market place with the skills so it was not like there was lots of competition

that was in the tough times of 2002 after being 8 weeks on the bench, cv was getting no bites, tough times take tough measures...

have worked with the same technology and its evolution for the last 6 years and all orbiting technologies and am proud and happy to say am now defo an expert of said technology

at the time, it was not easy and it was not a holiday, but on the other side as the product was so new there was nobody highly skilled in it anywhere anyway, so nobody really to be bench marked against

                  Milan.

So, let me get this straight, there are parallels between watching porn videos and swapping data tapes.
