Huge danger of tipping us into recession though? With increases in oil/ulitlities/food well in the system can the economy stand tax increaes?

Still I guess interest rate can always be cut if the economy does go downhill enough to bring inflation down...

It will be the usual deal.

Low paid will pay a bit more tax but then a complex tax credits system will pay some of it back, albeit at a high cost and prone to mistakes.

The middle income group will be absolutely hammered.

The seriously wealthy will be left alone on grounds that they might "leave the country and take their wealth with them".

Isn't it about that someone held Paul Daniels, Frank Bruno, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jim Davison to their pre-election promises when they vowed that they would leave the country if Labour ever got in?

I would have voted for them if I'd known

Last time the low paid got hammered with the removal of the 10% rate

The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

People earning 6 to 15k would be slightly worse off (max ~£150 year) because of the removal of the 10% band, but there were plenty of tax credit raises to offset this.

People on 39k plus are worse off (~£500) because of the huge increase of the upper NI threshold

People inbetween are slightly better off because of the decrease in normal tax rate from 22 to 20%

even more so as vaseline is oil-based - You're better off buying a big tub of KY

The British economy will continue to grow, he said. "This Budget is about equipping Britain for the times ahead...about building a fairer society," he said.
