    break a good thing??

I am looking to take a month of contracting..
to spend some time with my 11 month old kid in June,
hence not extending my contract(was promised stuff on my latest
ext that didn’t happen bonus and a year ext rather than the 2 months
till may.. then if there’s work more ext .. looks like there will be
loads of work .. and only told this on last day of old contract!!)
My question is, will this month break + bench time look bad when
looking for other contracts? Esp. if there is a Slow down in the .net
    market.
(been contracting since 2000 ... and not had more than a month between contracts.. Jammie I know)

Can't see why it would look bad - people expect a contractor to take a holiday now and then.

Worst case could be that it takes a long time to get back to another contract - in which case, you were doing training, weren't you?

I'd be taking the Benes approach - make hay while the sun shines!

          very well put Stu,

make hay while the sun shines,

          get it while you can

because when you can't you'll realise how much you really needed it and could have done with it and should have respected it

          ask Luke !

Better to take a break when you're benched instead of taking one voluntarily...

yep it's a tough one, stay at home and bond with the baby and maybe with the downturn coming end up not getting back into contracting or, shut your mouth, keep your head down, and keep turning up for work and invoicing, survive the down turn and provide a financial foundation for your family to prosper

                  Milan.
