    Modelling

ok, not quite sure what the reaction will be on here but you never know, i might possibly get some useful information.

Girlfriend chef last night decided that as a side line to her career in hotel management she wants to pursue a career in modelling. She is goodlooking and has the sort of bone structure/physique you see/expect in a model, i.e she's not a munter which obviously helps, however, the questions I have are:

    1) isnt it near impossible to breakthrough in modelling? the sort of equivalent of being signed by a well known producer for those in the music business.
    2) does anyone have any tips of how to go about getting into the business?
    3) has anyone you know pursued this and whats their feedback?

I had a go once. Would have stuck with it but the balaclavas they had me modelling made my face itch.

All I know is that modelling is one of the very few industries where agencies screw you even more than we are used to and can ask you for fees upfront etc. (Acting I think is the other line of work that can do this)

      Good luck!

(and post some pics once a while, yeah?)
It's about time I changed this sig...

Is an IT nerd’s forum the best place to ask about such things? Do you expect informative answers or are you just showing off?
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

I went to a modelling agency once to ask them if I had any possible career in being a male model.

They said "maybe sock modelling in catalogues".

                Top totty

Easy - take a semi-clad pic of her and send it off to The Sun, Nuts, Zoo etc. If she is as good as you say, they'll get back to her for more. Quick way to start, by-passing agencies etc. Mate's gf (could have said mine!) done that and she's on Page 3 B-list.

                    1) Yes and no. Dependson the age. Guessing girlfriend chef isn't a spring chicken (i.e. in the teens). Very hard to make it as a super model. Not so hard to get work locally etc as a photgraphers model (no not the kind of stuff that makes it into the one a day thread). Look on istockphoto.com there are people there that are always after good looking models to do stuff such as sit in front of a computer, hold a bag etc etc. That will get her face out there. It would be a miracle if she went from zero to supermodel and to be frank ain't going to happen.

There is lots of modelling work out there but the majority of them are not in clothing but for photography etc.

Maybe try to be a specialist model. Hand model etc. Not as "glamerous" but in reality not much of modelling is.

My sister works with models for a high street fashion chain so I'll see if she knows what the score is.

                    2) Go to places like the clothes show etc. They have scouts there looking for people. Its not a good idea to pay an "agency" as they will more than likley just run with the money.

                    3) I was once (or twice) in a police line up. Thats sort of modelling.
