    Leaving a new contract

I have an interview this pm for a contract job for three months. Tomorrow I have a permie interview for a job I would really like to take - near home, money good.

What happens if I accept the contract job and then I am offered the premie job, will a standard contract have notice periods for both sides or am I stuck for the three months?

Should I just try to stall the contract position and how long could I do that for from your previous experiences?

    Thanks

If the contract seeking client really wants you, they will be prepared to wait for a day. The agent will tell you they won't but the agent is lying and simply trying to close the deal quickly. As to what a "standard contract" contains as regards notice periods, that is not really relevant. It is what your contract contains that matters.

Wait until you get both offers and then make a decision, why worry about something that may not happen?

Or are you trying to convince us of your brilliance... Ask Chico what goes before a fall.

You could always ask the permie (spit) people if they will wait till you have finished the contract (hint) tell them you have to give 3 months notice and feel a great sense of loyalty to the old firm, dont want to let them down etc...

If all else fails snot the manager.

          ok ............

SupremeSpod - I just believe in sods law - I have been looking for any IT job for the past nine weeks - and all of a sudden I get a load of interviews all at once !

I had another one last week as well ...........

Has anybody else noticed some increased activity out there ? I thought these summer months were meant to be quiet.

Say you are keen to accept but must first get the contract reviewed for IR35 clearance by your tax specialist. That is something many contractors have to do these days, and will stall the agent for a couple of days at least - it's usually the agent not the client who is in a hurry to wrap up the deal.

Then when you have been offerred and have accepted the permie job, just be honest - you've got something else - can't hurt, especially if the permie role is a serious long term prospect.

              Take the contract

              Just take the contract.

Then ditch them if you want to.

God, it's not exactly rocket science.

Think what they would do if the positions were reversed.
