newspapers plot to oust Gordon Brown

    By: BBC on: 25.05.2008

The Sunday Times suggests that Labour is beginning to tear itself apart.

It claims Foreign Secretary David Miliband has told friends he would stand for the leadership if enough backbenchers turn against Gordon Brown.

The Observer reports that up to 40 backbenchers may be ready to back a leadership challenge.

That is dismissed by an unnamed ally of the prime minister who asks the Mail on Sunday: "Are Labour MPs really going to commit political hara-kiri en masse?"

I said some months ago that the powers that be in the UK have been grooming David Miiband for stardom. These anti Brown noises are more about getting Miliand into power than anything else.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

I cannot see why anyone would want to risk a challenge to the snot-goblin. Not that there is any danger in them not winning the leadership, but the prospect of then going on to loose the next general election would not appeal.

Despite the bye-election, London mayor, and local government election I still think that there is a very good chance of Labour being returned at the next general election. The Conservatives still have too much baggage for them to ever make a serious comeback.

No ‘up and coming’ Labour MP will want to have the label “the one that lost the election after three terms”. I think the odds are still in their favour, but only just. None of the potential candidates have the nerve to risk it.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

Looks more like Gordan hasn't done enough to toady up to <<Australian media mogul that owns satellite TV and several newspapers>>.

Labour's only chance is to pull together behind Brown.

yes and shove him off a cliff somewhere
Some people are like slinkys, totally pointless but the thought of pushing them down a flight of stairs never fails to put a smile on your face.

Labour will certainly lose the next election led by Gordon Brown. He is a very poor leader, he is unlikeable, and his economic chickens are coming home to roost.

However, if he doesn't want to go, getting rid will be very messy.

GB is quite capable of ousting himself.

yes. Just as they've done in the past.
