Training to be a trainer?

I had a job emailed to me for a training job. The pay was mega bucks and it occured to me that I might actually enjoy training instead of working at the sharp end.

How do you go about becoming a trainer? Surely you can't just declare yourself a tutor and get on with it.

Any trainers able to give advice?

Why not?? I used to work as a trainer, when I was in permiedom.. What I would do, is get on a one day presentation skills course and off you go (as long as you know your subject, that's all you need)..

I too was a trainer in permiedom. It is way harder than you'd think, but it can be very rewarding. Remember (depending on the type of gig) you are likely to be grilled every day by smart people who ask excellent but searching questions. It's a good way to learn stuff but you need to be good at dealing with awkward people too.

I prefer desk jobs as I can wander off for a few mins if I get bored....

Define "mega bucks"

£600 a day, which to me would be mega bucks.
It was for a VMWare trainer but it looks like you do have to qualify as a VMWare certified instructor which could be tricky as you need a way in before you get qualified.

Maybe I shouldn't quit the desk job just yet.

Generally trainers earn less than the people they train.

Not only on the day rate, but the fact that most courses are 1 - 3 day courses (with the occasional 5 dayer thrown in) and it's very difficult earning keeping your books full to earn a decent crust. If I was working on average 3 weeks out of four I was doing well... Unless you're part of an an implementation gig training the workforce.

That's why I moved out of training and into doing...
