New school curriculum planned - Oh Dear

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...s-adviser.html

Children should no longer be taught traditional subjects at school because they are "middle-class" creations, a Government adviser will claim today.

Professor John White, who contributed to a controversial shake-up of the secondary curriculum, believes lessons should instead cover a series of personal skills.

Pupils would no longer study history, geography and science but learn skills such as energy- saving and civic responsibility through projects and themes.

Final nail in Britains future there. Another sterling Socialist plan in the making.

They should be taught the bloody traditional subjects that build the groundwork for a moderately intelligent society; and they should be slapped around a bit if they don't learn. It's time to put a bit of pride back into the system, none of this poncying around with not allowing them to fail. Failure is an important life lesson. I'm gonna stop typing here it makes me mad.....

why cant they stop playing with it and let experts who are in touch with reality (i.e. a focus group of current teachers) review the system?

it changes that much, it aids the downfall...
I didn't say it was your ******* fault, I said I was blaming you!

Nail hit squarely on the head there.

Futurewife has been teaching for over 8 years now. She's had to endure a change of curriculum (on average) every 2 years.

If you keep changing the goalposts, you'll never let anybody score.

          FFS!

          Professor White BA, Dip. Ed.

I refer the honourable members to my thread which is vindicated by the above crap:

          http://forums.contractoruk.com/gener...education.html

And here's a list of his publications which shows no bias or leaning towards a particular world view

This stuff really makes me angry, FFS throw:

wife has just resigned after 3yrs to bring up baby, she has found being at home much less stressful!!

my current client is an exam board, and they seem to have to rewrite the content every two years, and the constant changing is stuffing up my project as i cant plan for the future as they dont know what state subjects will be in! this project is the future of this client, and we're struggling!

I fondly remember my A-level course in political science (dropped after a few weeks), with it's focus on Marxism, How Great Cuba is, How Evil America is, etc. (they were the actual module titles).
The education system in the UK is instutionally biased, I don't think there's any doubt of that. But at least it used to be at least a little, well, "educational"

Here's a question from a recent GSCE Maths exam:

                2+2=4
Write a 200 word essay on 1 of the following:
                a. How does that make you feel?
                b. Does this reflect your value system?
                Bored.
