Cause you got two kids and not enough space (Or a garden), and getting about 20% down on the original asking price ...

Did I mention I'm buying a house right at this moment?

Console yourself with the fact there are mugs like me who bought a big house for precisely the same reasons and timed it for the peak month of property prices last year. I'd been waiting for the crash for years and fought off the Mrs quite well but eventually cracked.

Apologies for scaremongering but I really do think it's going to be a big crash, have you seen today's HBOS figures, it has now got underway in earnest. The lending figures from earlier in the week were also scary.

Have you considered some polite gazundering ?

He would be right. In fifty years time all this would be seen as just a blip. House prices fall 1% over a month; stock indices often move more than that per day. Only evil ‘speculants’ would be worried about recent declines.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

I'd wait until the next general election to ensure Labour get back in again.

Don't want to buy a house and then find the Tories are in, fooking up the wonderful economy Brown and Co have created.

            Boomed!

Could have got 35% off if you'd bargained harder...

Tried, did get him to knock more off than he was originally prepared too, after not budging for a couple of weeks. Comfortable enough with it - it's a fair price and we're not looking to sell it quickly so should be right.

BTW DP wrong on all three counts - well might be mildly socialist, but only very mildly.

I wonder how you'll feel when you realise that the payments you are making now would have bought you a mansion in 2 yrs time, but you can't sell up and move due to negative equity.
