    Reading documents

I've got this heap of documentation to read for a new project but I JUST CAN'T GET INTO IT. It's really doing my head in... I start to read and I get bored and distract myself with anything else.

I think I've completely lost the ability to concentrate for more than a couple of minutes.

You are not alone, don't worry no one else will read the documents either.

Top tip - don't even attempt to concentrate until the tulip has hit the fan. It is wasted effort and you could even work yourself out of a job if you start trying too hard and too early.

many top civil servants have overcome this problem simply by taking a train.

Indeed - although said civil servants could keep top secret docs secret if they kept them in the same place as their (and MPs) top secret expenses they wouldn't keep losing 'em

            Back on topic (ish)

Skim over docs, memorise a few bits in case quizzed, spend rest of time posting on here - sorted!

I think the best way to deal with all too common situations like this is to take notes, summarising heavily. Do this mindlessly while listening to TV, talking etc. Then read and digest the notes properly.
