IR35 Contract Review in person ?

I’ve been in a contract for a while and I’d like to have a second opinion about its IR35 status. I am aware of the many written Review Services but I feel like I rather talk to an expert in person. That way I can catch the subtlety in their opinion.

So before I start ringing “the usual suspects” any pointers are welcome .

If you would like our opinion on a particular engagement you should send your contract(s) to:

    IR35 Unit
    HM Revenue & Customs
    North East Metropolitan Area
    Fountain Court
    119 Grange Road
    Middlesbrough
    TS1 2XA

    e-mail:

    IR35

    Tel No: 0845 303 3535
    Fax No: 0845 302 3535

Sending your contract to HMRC for 'review' really isn't a good idea. You'll end up getting a horribly biased opinion and, unless you send it anonymously, could end up with a review or enquiry.

I'm sure most of the IR35 specialists (including us!) would conduct a face to face review if required. PM me if you want more details.

Bauer and Cottrell have always talked to me on the phone in addition to giving me a written document.

Probably best not to contact HMRC as suggested above. I would use your own counsel rather than asking HMRC's opinion.

Sorry for being misleading but I was posting my 'HMRC' suggestion with sarcasm intended. Would be good to do it anonymously just out of curiosity though to see what their own take is on it.

I have met contractors who swear by the HMRC IR35 review line.

One of them even got told their contract was outside IR35

B&C reviewed mine, sent out the revised copy to the client (direct contract) and followed up both myself and the client, talked us through the changes using both email and telephone calls. All agreed by the client, no problem. Therefore a face to face wasn't necessary. Danny Batey was the guy at B&C.
