Do you get offended by the comments on this board?

Some people seem to get very upset by the comments on this board. As a person who gets abuse and sometimes gives it out, I can say that I never get upset or hurt (maybe you need to try harder). I see this board as a bit of a skive from work where people doss or have a cyber argument, all in order to make the day pass more quickly. People post bs (I know I do) but it generates debate, sometimes you even learn something new!

It's a virtual pub, yet most of us aren't p1ssed.

The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

Only very occasionally, once in a blue moon.
No stabbity stab list - that's reserved for politicians.

I have been offended in the past.

I came here as a newbie ages ago (2006? 2007?) asking about accountants. I got so much flak for being new that I ran away again. I cannot even remember the id I used at the time now.

I then lurked for a bit, saw how it worked, grew some skin and came back.

      Now it is an education.
My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.

That's one thing on this board I can't abide. If people ask a question in the right place, there is no need to be a twat, after all we were all newbies once

Very occasionally someone over steps the line.

More often than not it's some troll who thinks racist jokes are funny, or that dude last year that had a go at me for getting upset after a colleague suicide. I'll debate any point with anyone, but arguing with a troll is kinda pointless, though not really upsetting.

I get upset all the time. I am a very sensitive soul and just try to gloss over my caring nature with bravado.

I have to admit it Yes I do. I have been working on this appli fkin cation for three months now and I HATE working in other peoples sh 1 te.
Its not so much the comments but the lack of comments in the code that really p1sses me off.
so YES comments in the code can be really upsetting.

If there are no comments in the code, why not just cut and paste random comments extracted from CUK posts?

That way people working on the code (yourself for a start) will find it more interesting, and by staying alert will introduce fewer bugs when changing it. Isn't that the whole point of comments?

P.S. Some people may get uppity and claim their comments here are copyright or something, but you're welcome to use any of my posts.
