It's generally not more tax-efficient than personal donation. But I've done sponsorship in return for publicity.
Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!

Does lending money to New Labour count in return to overlooking my company in any IR35 investigations?

yeah, i'm looking at this - it's only something small of course but pretty cool.

the tax efficiency thing - paying it from the company disqualifies the donation from tax relief at their end i believe, so it's kind of tight-fisted on my part unless i bump up the amount to account for this.

Done that too. Went through the books as marketing as it was the closest category I could think of. There's a sports team running around with my company name emblazoned over their kit.

              Closed the company since mind

MyCo has never made a financial charitable donation.

It has provided many, many hours of my time in return for free advertising.

For example, there are charity newsletters out there with

                    "Typeset & printed by CraniumCo"

                    on the bottom.
My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.
