What the chances of getting SC cleared?

    Hi

New to this so apologise if not correct way of asking!!

I have been offered a contract abroad which but it subject to SC clearance. My girlfriend has an IVA and I am doing a debt management plan. Both been running ok with no defaults and we dealing with our situations responsibly now. IShe had the IVA from debts prior to me knowing her and mine came through supporting her until she got the IVA and through a period of maternity! Tried to consolodate out of it but then took DMP option. Basically been upfront on my vetting forms and told them the story. Job is in no way involved in anything financial other than it will pay a big wage and allow us to clear both the IVA and DMP in about two years which is so life changing

Now the only stumbling block is this clearance? Do I stand a chance or should I give up now? Big stress in not knowing!!!!

    Thanks

Credit rating is taken into consideration.

They don't like it if they think you would accept a large cash sum from a BadLandian agent in exchange for secrets.

They don't like it if you don't keep up repayments (untrustworthy, I suppose).

If you haven't told them everything, they won't like it big time.

If you are cheerfully paying off the debts and have told them everything (they will send you a 2nd form to fill in to explain your financial situation if they have any doubts) then you should be OK. I reckon if you get that 2nd form, you are in with a good chance.

I have heard stories that if you give up, you will never get clearance in the future.

The good news is, if you fail because of finances, you don't have to wait long to be told.

BUT ... for everything you get told about the clearance procedure, there is someone who will tell you otherwise.
My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.

Sorry to be negative, but I'd work on the basis that there will be some candidates who are going for the SC and they have nothing to worry the recruiters, whereas you and your missus will cause some consternation.

I'd plan for the worst and look for other jobs.

If it does come up, treat it as a bonus.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

If you take that attitude, you'll never get anywhere in life - the slightest setback will prevent you ever achieving anything.

I'd plan for the best, and hope for the best. If it does come up (ooh-er missus!) I'd take it as a justly deserved outcome. If it doesn't, I'd shrug it off and keep on trying.

Expecting the worst will get you just that. Expecting the best might mean you are occasionally disappointed, but you can just expect the best next time around

Making back up plans in case Plan A goes wrong is IMHO not a defeatist attitude but in reality a very sensible one. I'm often accused of being cynical, but I take pleasure in the fact that I get lots of nice surprises, rather than being let down a lot.

Don't give up, make all the necessary plans to go out there, but also get a backup ready for when the worst happens, invariably it will from time to time so it is better to be ready for it than to just hope everything will go well.

Thanks Ardesco...you put my philosophy more eloquently than I did.

Putting all one's eggs in a single basket, I have found, inevitably leads to more disappointment than taking a cynical view and spreading the risk around.

The recruitment side was fine and basically the role mine (it very specialised so no real competition). Made sure the recruiter knew about the finances problem and they were fine. It now just fingers crossed the DVA wont have a problem! Forms are in and hope is out there!!!!
