    "Instead of just looking at the number and quality of links to and from a webpage as Google's technology does..."

    It's funny how technology journalists still seem to think Google uses nothing but PageRank. They don't reveal much about their techniques, but a well-known Googler has mentioned that they use over a hundred different techniques in their scoring algorithms, of which PageRank is just one (and not necessarily the most important nowadays).

      The press have just got over excited because:

      1) It's the silly season.
      2) There are ex-Google employees involved.

      The tech journalists simply print whatever appeared in the press release, they wouldn't know an algorithm if it spilled their drink at El Vinos.
