Do agency need VAT cert copy

Started a contract a few weeks back ( self billing! oh no! ) and having never had a self billing contract before havent had the joys of experiencing one!

I usually just invoice + VAT and get paid. Simple.

Now the "agency" are saying that to add VAT to the amounts paid to me they need to see the VAT cert. I dont have a problem sending them a copy but it makes it sound as if they think I could be pulling a fast one for the VAT figures!!

Is this usual practice i.e agency asking for VAT cert?

It's not at all unusual to be asked for copies of VAT and Incorporation certificates in my experience.

If they start refusing to pay VAT though, they could be getting themselves into trouble.

Sometimes I've been asked, other times not. I just send a fax, if asked.
Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!

Yes. If you are not registered for VAT, and you start charging VAT, you could end up with some headaches.
If your company is the best place to work in, for a mere £500 p/d, you can advertise here.
