    Krav Maga

Thinking of taking it up, anyone do it? any good?

    #2
    From the infallible Wiki:

Instructors emphasize two training rules: (1) there are no rules in a fight and (2) one must not injure oneself or one's partner when training.

So, you may end-up thinking you can take-on 5 burly toughs, and end-up with your arse in a sling. Good luck!

            more extracts from the wiki:

The guiding principles for those performing Krav Maga techniques are:

            Do not get hurt
Neutralise your attacker as fast as possible
Go from defending to attacking as quickly as possible
            Use the body's natural reflexes
            Strike at any vulnerable point
Use any tool or object available to you

            Sweeeeeet.

                    Hey NetwSupport,

I did a bit of Jap-Slappin in my younger days.

Krav Maga is a grown up (i'm even loathe to call it...) martial art. Most clubs play by big boy rules and use full body pads to practice full contact combat. Often in the dark with distractions such as loud music, smoke, more than one attacker etc.

The idea being that it conditions you to appreciate the way real fights usually play out. Plenty of grappling and striking and running away.

History of it comes from Hungary (i think) and was adopted widely by Israeli forces and subsequently taught to a lot of teeth arm forces around the globe.

Proper nasty stuff and not for everyone - No walts need apply.

                    Cheers.
