How does a worthless degree of today measure up to a proper degree of say circa 1990? Assume a science related degree rather one in cookery or something stupid.

The thing about a degree is not what subject you did or what class you got, it's the very fact that you have one.
There is a glass ceiling, especially in permidom, beyond which it is virtually impossible to pass without a degree on your CV.
A' levels may get you an entry level job to begin with but making it into middle management and beyond needs a degree.

I would say the value of a degree that was avalible 20 years ago is a good as the same degree today - its all the new Mickey Mouse ones that have devalued the perception of degreesGrowing old is mandatory

Let's face it there are a lot of graduates of esoteric (ok bloody useless) subjects that bring very little to the employment market place and as a result aren't especially employable.
Damnit that's the second time that I've posted almost exactly the same as another poster. CUK in bugging scandal!!!!Last edited by TykeMerc; 18 August 2008, 12:20.Comment

Is a degree easier, no idea. Are a-levels easier - or are there more resources for kids and have teachers/programmes got better at teaching them?
Again I've no idea. Lot of this debate (In the public domain that is) seems to be ill informed, and knee jerk.Hang on - there is actually a place called Cheddar?? - cailin maith

Is this a trick question?
Q. 'A degree of today'
Option: 'Same as today'
Or doesn't the axiom 'something is the same as itself' apply in nuLieBore land anymore? How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.
