    Boris - Olympic mayor ...

Not seen it mentioned anywhere, but did anyone else find Boris a bit embarassing at the handover ceremony?

He's supposed to be representing us to the world, and he could be arsed to button his suit up and try not to look a punter that had slipped past security and found himself on the main stage.

Been reading some of the foreign press on it, and it looks like he's at best made a tit of himself, and at worst offended a few hunred million chinese by not being respectful enough ...

I did not see the ceremony but I read that he made an amusing speech about ping-pong returning to the UK. We invented it on the dining tables of England while the French were too busy using them for eating, and the Chinese developed the game into one of its major sports.

I wonder if he offended the French ?? Well done Boris and thanks for dropping that 25 quid tax per car per day just as you promised!!!

I was waiting for him to trip up the steps. Or clout the President of the IOC with that flag. Bit of a let down really.

Not really, it's a global stage. You really think turning up in a ruffled, unbuttoned suit representing London - you know, competing to be the global business capital of the world - shuffling up to the main stage looking like a naughty schoolboy, hands in pockets or fistpumping was a good thing?

You'd give a candidate hell for going to an interview like that, but you're defending cause it's good old Boris DA?

SFA to do with his politics BTW, think you're getting the wrong end of the stick on that one. How hard is it to make a teeny bit of effort and be respectful in that situation?

Only mentioning it cause I like to read OS newspapers on t'internet, get a different perspective and all that and it seems like quite a few think we were a bit shambolic, with Boris being one of the talking points.

Wow, the last time I saw blinkers that big the Iraqi information minister was denying tanks were rolling into Baghdad ...

I give up. Clearly he did a great job presenting just the right image of London's ability to host a games.

Having seen a smart Blair and his polished cronies fail on just about every policy with New Lie, I will happily put up with a scruffy guy with charisma that is honest, achieves, and also keeps promises to deliver. Good luck Boris !!!

London has already won the games setting high expectations in the process. The next four years must be spent lowering those expectations, and the Mayor's appearance was obviously the start.
