Why the tories do not deserve to win the next election

Tories plan to raise inheritance tax threshold to £2 million

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/news...tance-tax.html

How exactly does this encourage people to work hard? Once children are 18 they should stand on their own feet.

Personally I would raise inheritance tax to 100% with a threshold of £0 - no exceptions for trusts etc. Perhaps the money raised could be used to lower income tax?

I said that here once before, and everybody shouted at me.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

Does it really encourage 18 year old children to bum around if they won't receive any inheritance until they are at least 55-60 years old?

Are you planning on dying when your children turn 18? Most "children" will probably be around 40 when their parents snuff it.

If there's no inheritance, then it doesn't matter.

It's the cumulative effect that's most damaging. Generations of families where nobody works because they all live off family money.

Can't see anything wrong with it myself.

One of the main points to making obscene amounts of moolah is surely to provide for your family so they don't necessarily need to work if they don't want to ? They can then divert their time to other pursuits as it pleases them.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

              Or the Socialist alternative:

Generations of families where nobody works because they all live off State money.

Of course it does, but to varying degrees. I am 45 and if I had a big fat wedge coming to me do you think I would hang around talking to you lot?
