Immigration levels have pushed population density in England to a higher level than any other major country in Europe.

The figures, released by the Office for National Statistics, indicate there is an average of 395 people in every square kilometre in England.

This is an increase of five per sq km in the past two years.

The increase has pushed England's population density above the previous highest figure set by the Netherlands.

Within the European Union, only the island of Malta has a higher population density than England.

Who likes open space, low house prices, quiet roads, small classrooms and hospitals with spare beds anyway?

Those are only the official figures too, if memory serves the Government have admitted that they don't know how many people have entered Britain and stayed.

The number could be 20% higher for all we know.

Eng(po)land occupies around 1 thousandth the total land area of the world but almost one in 100 of all humanity is now an Englishman. We would have trouble feeding ourselves come the fuels shocks that will likely start 2015 or so.
