    Been like that since shortly after 9/11, thanks to that attack congress was so frightened out of their wits that they passed the law with little thought. Since then the "right" to fair trial by your peers has not existed in the US

      Cogress giveth and congress taketh -- I can't see this measure either used often or actually surviving often.

        Maybe, maybe not. He got those powers while the "war" on terror continues....one problem though, that war is unlikely to ever end.

          As soon as powers get abused it will create major scandal and take them away for good, probably they will never be given again.
