err 501: invalid command in IE6

I've just reinstalled win 2k on an old laptop. i can connect with ADSL modem fine, but when I open up any web page in Internet Explorer or netscape Im serverd a blank page with the error message ERR 501: Invalid command.

My other laptop running win xp home access web pages fine using the same broadband connection.

    Any ideas on this one?

    Tried this?

Applies to IE 6.0 SP1 not just win xp as stated at top. Dunno about netscape but possibly they have shared DLLs.

      Thanks.

The anti-virus software I had installed was preventing http access. Now sorted.
