When my dad left the Royal navy in 1947 he moved back to Bootle and palled up with an ex soldier who had lost a leg in the desert. They used to go down the pub for a beer and this guy was so good no one knew he has a tin leg.
On the way home one lunch time a number 28 bus came round the corner too fast, knocked them over and went right over the tin leg. My dads mate picked it up, put it under his arm, leaned on my dad and said, 'I still reckon it was a penalty, Everton was robbed'
Apparently there were women fainting all around as they hobbled off home.
