    Stinking Bishop

    Anyone here have this cheese?

A sticky orange rind with a pungent and spirited aroma. The texture can vary from firm to soft and creamy depending on the season.

Stinking Bishop is said to be derived from a cheese once made by Cistercian monks in the village of Dymock. Monks have always been associated with the production of 'washed rind' cheeses.
I bet a few here have this problem also.

Yes, I have. I think it's quite nice although I certainly concede it's not everyone's cup of tea. I recently had a very similar French cheese - the name escapes me but it's washed in Marc de Bourgogne - the rind smells very unappetising but the cheese is exceptionally tasty.

Found it with a quick Google. It's called Epoisses de Bourgogne. Highly recommended for anyone who likes their cheese a bit out of the ordinary (it really stinks, unlike Stinking Bishop which isn't really that stinky in the grand scheme of all things cheesy).

I read that that French cheese is actually banned on the Paris underground it stinks so much.

I wish they would apply the same law to unwashed people.

I've had a bit of stinking bishop, and it was feckin disgusting.

P.S. the fragrant choirboy wasn’t much better either.
