Don't spend all day looking for gigs, it'll just get depressing. Find something to do. Read a book, do some gardening, redecorate a room, go to the driving range, go visit somewhere you've never been before.

check jobsites:

mid morning (i.e long enough for agents to gel their hair, get to work, stop chatting up the receptionist and type an ad)

in the evening (i.e long enough for agents to re-gel their hair post lunch and finish looking at bmw's in autotrader to write a 2nd ad for the day)

any other time is pointless, spend your time improving yourself, your co. or catching up on those things you never get time to do

Can I suggest immersing yourself in a MMORPG. World Of Warcraft saw me through my last bench stint in fine style. Well worth the £40 a month or however much it is.
