    Early Retirement

I notice that the search results for this phrase are different for US and UK sites:

If you include all sites, the top results are American, and concern people planning to fund their own early retirement.
If you look on UK sites, most are aimed at public sector workers wanting to retire early.

The difference is in tax - public sector workers get final salaries funded by tax, where as in the USA they have to earn it actually. Tax make all the difference in behavior.

Go to Cyprus and speak to all the early retirees sitting in the sun, sailing boats, playing golf and lounging in their pools at their private villas.

Majority are ex-public sector, living a low-tax lifestyle on final salary pensions funded by the taxpayer.

They is laughing at the private sector.

Not for long. Cyprus went bad about 5 years ago. Paphos in the off season was like Benidorm on alcopops last time I visited.

Indeed: if you don't pay into a pension, it's only your own pension that suffers: you're still paying into theirs.
