    Online CV.

I have had my CV online on my website for at least 8 years, maybe 10. I've got a lot of calls from it, but not a single one has been from a prospective client, all have been from agencies. Actually a lot of those have been from people saying "I found your CV on the internet" when it is clear that they have an old version and probably bought it in a job lot from someone else. In some of those cases they clearly don't even have a copy of it in front of them.

By now I am known to most of the agencies that specialise in my area, and indeed to a number of large clients.

So I doubt that I need an online CV any more. Still, no harm in it, I suppose. Except that I do get things like the guy in Belgium who hawked it round agencies as a contractor that he was able to offer (an agency I had worked with told me they had got his pitch). I don't mind working with agencies, but I see no reason to insert a parasite or two in the chain.

    What do you(se) find?

Same here, had it online on my website for about 10 years but have been lucky and got 2 small lucrative contracts (and some good contacts) from it.
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Learnt the hard way not to post my CV on jobswerve and the like. Pulled it after a day of calls from retard agents asking stupid questions.

I never put my CV up now, I just cherry pick the gigs I like from the job sites and off I go.

I also ask all speculative pimps to remove my details from their databases. Some do (or at least say they do), some clearly don't bother.

No, I don't post it to job sites. But it's on my own site, and a google search from someone wanting a contractor like me will turn it up quite high. So I am out there for people to find, but that's not what happens.

I agree. I have had my Ltd co website for over 5 years and it has lots of case stidues etc packed with great key words that Google finds no trouble. I have had 1 paid day of work from my website in that time. I have had many Engineers stuck for inspiration emailing me or calling me what they always intended to be free advice. Early on I made the mistake of going to a supposed reputable client and looking back on it I told him everything he needed to do to NOT hire me!

Now I just say "if you want to know that, you need to pay me first". They never do........

            I dont agree.

I've never once contacted an agent with my CV, but I HAVE posted it on Jobserve/Jobsite.

Therefore, I deduce that every single one of my gigs have resulted directly from doing this.

Obviously I've had hundreds of calls from the nobbas, but in general I reckon agencies get the online CV's, store them, then phone you when a job comes in.

At least that's what's happened for me.

But I'm in quite a cliquie Oracle Apps world.

That's what I'm trying to avoid.

                Almost WSS.

I've sent an up-to-date CV when an agent has contacted me, but the vast, vast majority of my work has come from applications to Jobserve. I've had a couple of word-of-mouth / already spoken to the agency jobs, but they are rare for me.

But that may be what a niche market does for you.

Most have my roles have been agents calling me. Only one has been due to applying direct to something that was advertised.
