Fairly obviously option 1 is a means to option 2. So ultimately I'd like to work less.

Strangely enough, I've voted "work less".

I know plenty of people who are just aiming to earn more and more, working as much as they can - I know milan has said "make hay while the sun shines" more than once on CUK.

I've worked with people who see every day off (including holidays) as a missed opportunity to earn money.

I deliberately take three months off each year (plus the six weeks and counting I've had off so far through illness). Every day I spend with my family is priceless, and time that I won't get back again. Maybe once the children become teenagers, I'll be so glad to get away from them, I'll change my opinion

Just fininshed a 12 month gig which was 4 days per week and although benched at the moment - I still earned in the last 6 months more then what I would earn in a year going permie.

This could be the most unusual recession of all time, as highly trained people just choose to work less; I’ve already spoken with my client, who needs to cut 3 fte’s next year, and told him that I’m happy to cut down to a 3 day week; others have said similar things and it makes his job easier; he can cut costs without sacking people, people can enjoy more free time. Trouble is, if lots of people get used to working part time and having lots of free time, how will businesses motivate them to work full time again when the economy picks up?

            Money?

But we want you to be motivated by something other than money...

Yes, free time in combination with money.

True, true, a man after my own heart. But my kids are out at school all day so I might as well be working.

Kids are all very well, but they can't buy you happiness. So on reflection I would rather spend more time at home with my money
