My mate owns a 1987 Mercedes 200D with over 1 million kilometres on the clock. It’s slow, ugly, brown and completely outdated, but it just keeps going and is very fuel efficient for such a big comfortable car.

He's got plenty of money for something new but just doesn't seem to like new cars.

Anything Japanese, however they tend to hold their value well, so a newer less good car will probably be as reliable. You can get an 04 Mondeo/Laguna etc for that money these days (at auction).

Yes but they’re so boring people forget they exist. If you bought one you could end up forgetting to pick it up from the car park and wondering what that key in your pocket’s for.
