    Tips for new contractor

Hi all, I have just started as a contractor in the UK and I haven't got a clue about the finer details, like claiming expenses etc.

I've signed up with an umbrella company cos I think that is less hassle.

What sort of things can I claim weekly?

Also, what tips for a newbie would you suggest?

    Read the first timers guide.

Claim what you are allowed by your employer, keeping a receipt, and making sure that it's within HMRC rules. If they tell you to claim (e.g.) £26 a day for food because of their dispensation, they are not telling you the truth - you can claim what is classed as a business expense with a receipt and nothing more.
