Supermarkets are effectively holders of local monopoly and thus should be treated as such, specifically when it comes to how they deal with the supply chain -- Tesco is like Dixons, and do you know how Dixons deals with the suppliers?

Because they manage to get officials to count separately the smaller shops like tesco metros and new tesco corner stores.
Even though they all sell basiclly the same base products, government treat them as different areas of industry. Was because of this that tesco was able to buy up a large chain of mini marts a few years ago without getting the monopolys commision involved
Was a interesting program about how tesco operates about two months ago that showed all the "tricks" they pull, on both the government and the consumer.
Though guess it could be worse, could be wal-mart (aka asda) with market dominance
