    outstanding balance

anyone know what happens if you have an outstanding balance on your credit cards and return to your country of origin without paying it?

A friend of mine is in this position, just wondered if anyone knew?

depends on the amounts involved if < £500 GBP then unlikely they
will chase it, if greater they will try to locate you send a few nasty
letters, if no response they will then sell the debt on to the local thugs
who will then come around and beat the tulip out of you .

Depends whether he's intending to max out. Credit Card companies 'charge off' any bad debt to agencies who make money tracking the card holder down.

So it depends how much and how far away. Be warned though that most card issuers are worldwide ie visa, mastercard, bank of america (MBNA), amex etc any application in another country could be flagged up depending what's put on the new application form.

At the end of the day though its fraud, isnt it?

A friend of mine once moved counties without telling Barclycard, owing them about £200.

A few years later a named invitation to apply for a Barclycard dropped through his letterbox, so he filled it in for a laugh.
They gave him a new card with a 5k limit.

7 years on and still no mention.........

                .

someone who employs the local burglars to empty your house of all valuables, then disappears without trace. No warrant to seize goods needed, and no requirement to respect laws which say that working tools, cookers etc can't be taken.

Then wait until insurance money has allowed the hapless victim to replace that stuff, and repeat.

Go for it! It is fraud..But I know of a lot of young Asian lads that do it. Fly off for two years and then come back. Never chased up.
