British economy well positioned for the modern era

Forget all those backward countries in Europe that still do silly things like making cars. There's no added value in assembling machinery - you can do that anywhere. Britain is well positioned for the future - industries that are needed are:

    1) Financial services - this will need a better model but will be big going forward
    2) Bio-tech and pharma - this is the next big thing that people will pay for - changing your body and brain. Britain is a world leader
    3) Entertainment industries - can be sold to the growing middle classes around the world.
    4) Design/media/ advertising - British companies are world class at this.
    5) And of course the Arms industry - Britain is a world leader

Finally we should develop a huge new industry in energy efficiency
    Hard Brexit now!

You can if you have got blueprints and machinery to create parts. So long as you control all that you can even make money on assembling all this into final piece. All you need to do is avoid selling off your trade secrets just to gain extra short-term profitability at the expense of long-term survivability, exactly what happened to industry in this country: and Brown is only partially responsible for that.

What sort of model do you propose?

I don't think so: once you've lost it, you've lost it. Why should people continue to come to us with their money? Especially when we deal in our own sinking money.
          2) Bio-tech and pharma - this is the next big thing that people will pay for - changing your body and brain. Britain is a world leader
Maybe. Also Switzerland and of course the USA. And Germany.
          3) Entertainment industries - can be sold to the growing middle classes around the world.
We can sell it to the US, but the rest of the world is overwhelmed by US entertainment product. Even in the UK, young people talk like Americans because they spend more time with American TV than with their English teachers.
          4) Design/media/ advertising - British companies are world class at this.
Not as good as the Americans. Bulltulip is their business.
          5) And of course the Arms industry - Britain is a world leader
Yes: but the US arms industry will continue to get the US government to shaft the competition.

Finally we should develop a huge new industry in energy efficiency
What industry is that? What will we develop and sell? To whom?

I agree on that. Alternative energy sources, fuel cells, and making existing processes more efficient are all going to be huge as long as companies/governments don't panic and shut down all R&D.

There is very little point now in heavily investing in R&D. The china man just takes it apart and copies it.

If it's software they just copy it whole.

Same with entertainment, they just pirate anything.

Until this is addresses we cannot compete

I propose one in which bankers are not so f**king stupid and price risk sensibly.

Where's IT? IT is supposed to be second largest after Financial Services.
