    I'm enjoying this recession

    for the following reasons:

My mortgage rate is now 2% and falling. Within 3 months I will be paying less than 50 quid a month for a four bed house, while the rental fraternity will still be paying many hundreds a month.

The true extent of incompetence of Labour's tax and spend/waste is being shown. The UK will be effectively bankrupt but it is a price worth paying to see the back of the party of high taxes, stealth taxes, political correctness, lies, spin and deceit.

Goods are now becoming dirt cheap and as a saver my spending power is increasing by the day. Even today, the major airlines are reducing fares quite dramatically.

Cuts to public services and non-jobs will have to happen, and this is long overdue, because no country can continually spend more than it earns, except in Labour la-la land. Pretty soon the public pensions scandal will have to be addressed, but only a Tory government would do it. The day draws nearer.

HIPS, IR35, Tax credits, ID cards are soon to be consigned the dustbin and the country can get back to the business of generating meaningful wealth without being strangled by PC, red tape, and stupid socialist ideas.

Roll on 2009 !! I'm actually looking forward to it. The country needs it !!

They are all the same, and in fairness to GB it hasn't all been of his own making!

He has to, because the country needs it. 2010 will be a great year for free enterprise and deadly for the public sector. Deep public spending cuts have to be made and hopefully this will mean few tax rises and a loss of 500,000 non-jobs at least.

His annual 100 Billion deficit, rising to 150 Billion next year is all of his own making, and he still refuses to cut public spending. Australia had a surplus of 20 Billion due to its thrift, that it recently handed to the needy of its country. It's just the nature of Labour that they have wasted most of the money this country has had in one of the biggest boom times in history. Truly SAD that they never balanced the books or 'fixed the roof' while the sun was shining !!!

Can't argue with what you have said, but it isn't just the deficit is it? It is no single thing; and many of the things (American home loans, global credit availability, etc) are completely outside of GB's immediate control.

Granted he may not have left us well prepared for the times we find ourselves in - but DC would have done no different, and may have even done worse!

I expect 2009 to be a very tough year for small companies. I don't mean one man bands like most of you lot, but companies with maybe 10 to 50 staff.

MyCo's profits grew by 7% in Jan to Dec 2008 compared to 2007 and we took on 5 extra staff. If we achieve 0% growth with no job loses next year I think we will have done well.

                    2010 should be better though.

                    Merry Christmas.
