    No chance. They are hardly vital for the well-being of the economy, as the banks were, and of course there are very low barriers to entry. Others will open as the inefficient fail, but of course new banks cannot start up very easily and must surmount masses of red tape.

        Not so sure about that - Even for the lowliest corner shop you need shed loads of cash to finance a startup, for paying the rent, insurance, and the initial lot of stock. And today you'd be hard-pressed to get a bank loan for that.
