    Whiskey recommendations?

    I've been developing a taste for single malts over the last year or two. I typically buy all Scottish whiskeys about 12 years old as that has been the limit on my budget - about £25-30 a bottle.

    My favourite was probably Balvenie 12-year doublewood, also I liked a Highland Park and had a rather nice 12-year Bunnahabhain. I'm not really a fan of the more smoky taste.

    I'm thinking to treat myself to something a bit more upmarket with some Christmas money - maybe in the £30-50 range, probably a nice 15 or 18-year-old. Any suggestions from you guys... simply find a more expensive variant of something I already like?

    Whisky => Scottish

    Whiskey => Irish

    Not sure of the appropriate spelling for the stuff the Yanks churn out

      More relevant to your question, Lagavulin (16 year old) is a good drop - until I packed in drinking spirits a few years back, it was my favourite "something special" tipple

          Although there are some very nice bourbons (and other US whiskies not legally describable as bourbon) - we just don't get them in this country, or only from specialist outlets

          +1 for Islay

              My personal favourites are:

              Macallan
              Dalwhinnie
              Jura.

              Jura the best for me.

              All around the £20 mark I think......

                That's what I thought, the website I was looking at confused me
