    Am I being a Nobule ?

My lad is just 18, his last year at school was a disaster, so his academic prospects are bleak. He was doing a course at the local college but it was one of those 'take you off the dole figures' type sh 1 te courses.

So I was chatting to a plasterer/ builder relative who has taken him on as a junior labourer at £100 pw. He has been at it now for five months or so and is enjoying it, his work ethic is coming on nicely.
Trouble is, I am bunging the builder the 100 quid , but I forgot to mention it to the missus , the lad or , well anyone.

My big fear is that if I get benched, the lad will be double-fked, and if the missus finds out, I will be treble fked

    its a worry

I'd have a chat with builder and see whether lad can now pay his way. i.e. builder picks up tab?

Fc.uk. Can you approach the relative and ask him to start paying your son now? As for being benched, spose you will need to ensure your "just in case" pot now includes enough to pay that £100 a week...
Practically perfect in every way....there's a time and (more importantly) a place for malarkey.

and if not, and the builder has to lay him off, nobody need know you were forking out.

(Good stunt BTW - As you say, it gets him into the habit of working and picking up skills.)

EO - you are letting out all your secrets in your postings in the past few days - was there some new years resolution you are trying to keep or is this all a wind up?

                  Blimey.

This is a mad situation to be in.

What about things like insurance, NI and tax codes?

Sounds like the builder is getting nice free labour if he is coming along nicely.

Hence I would have a chat and suggest it could be sorted.

Also - think about how your son would feel if he knew that you were really paying for him!

Finally - maybe something like a work related NVQ would be good for both your son, plus the builder as he would get money for a trainee.

Hope things work out okay for you.

By the way - I flunked 6th form and college, and am now enjoying what I consider a good career with a tier one employer. Hence there is always hope!
