Tax break on buying a personal PC?

Following on from the bike thread, when I was a permie they ran a scheme where you could buy a PC out of your gross salary, as long as you signed a few conditions: agree to use it for work if required, must pay the tax if you leave the company within 3 years, etc.
The conditions don't seem an issue, but can I do it and is it worth it?

You can by a PC for yourco. It's a fixed asset so you allow for depreciation against your CT.

The government stopped this being worthwhile a few years ago.

As with many other things in life.

In many ways, it's not even worth working any more in this country.

...and what if you're caught by IR35? IIRC you can only claim 5% of all income for these kinds of expenses.

If it's what I think it is, HMG withdrew this scheme because some companies abused it.

I thought you could claim back up to 5% of income for business expenses, not for whatever you claimed for personally.

You can buy it for the company, and it's a company asset. But buying it out of gross salary as a personal asset - I don't think that's possible these days whether you are inside IR35 or not.
